The penultimate section of the reconstructed “Via Baltica” road from Marijampolė to Skardupiai village has been opened
Today, the penultimate section of the reconstructed “Via Baltica” road, from Marijampolė to Skardupiai village, was opened, spanning 16 km. The reconstruction works were carried out by The Fegda Group, with the companies Fegda, Tilsta, and Alkesta – our group reconstructed two out of the four strategically important sections of the “Via Baltica” road.
The symbolic opening event was attended by Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė, Minister of Transport Marius Skuodis, Via Lietuva CEO Marius Švaikauskas, Fegda Group company leaders, and others.
The penultimate section of the “Via Baltica” is the longest and technically most challenging, as well as the one with the largest number of new structures. Despite this, the work was completed with quality and on time – in just over a year.
“This is a record infrastructure project both in terms of financial value and the scope of work completed in such a short time: with one contract, the longest section of the highway in independent Lithuania’s history has been laid,” says Jonas Jablonskis, CEO of Fegda. During the opening, he especially thanked the group’s employees – around 330 employees from Fegda, Tilsta, and Alkesta worked on this section’s reconstruction.
“Via Baltica” penultimate section reconstruction in numbers:
- 5 viaducts, 4 bridges, 3 tunnel crossings, 10 roundabouts built
- 45 km of connecting roads laid, the largest rest area and parking lot in Lithuania constructed
