The demolition work of the Kruno Bridge will begin in April

Demolition work on the Kruno Bridge will begin in April, and traffic will be redirected to a newly constructed temporary bridge. All stages of the Kruno Bridge reconstruction can be seen in an animated video.

The Kruno Bridge reconstruction is another excellent example of the synergy of the Fegda Group of companies. The reconstruction of the worst-condition bridge in Lithuania has been entrusted to the company “Tilsta.” Meanwhile, both the temporary and permanent Kruno Bridge designs were created by the design company “SRP projektas.”

In Kaunas, on the A1 main road, the two-lane temporary bridge over the Kruno River has been completed, with only the access paving remaining, and in April, traffic will be diverted to it. At the same time, demolition work will begin on one side of the old Kruno Bridge.

The 128-meter-long modular bridge is the longest temporary bridge ever built in Lithuania. Its structure – the bridge deck – was assembled on the shore and then “slid” onto pre-installed supports.

With the temporary bridge in place, traffic will not be interrupted, avoiding related time and financial losses, as there will be no need to stop or take large detours.

“This is a completely atypical and unique bridge reconstruction project in Lithuania. Not only did we build the longest temporary bridge in Lithuania, but we will also carry out all reconstruction work without interrupting traffic on such a busy highway. We will complete all this in the shortest time possible – approximately within two years,” says Eduardas Grinaveckas, the head of “Tilsta.”

The total weight of the new permanent bridge will reach 6,100 tons. The Kruno Bridge reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.
