Existing Situation
The condition of the carriageway in the reconstructed section is poor. Visible asphalt damage includes cracks, potholes and surface disintegration. Large portions of the road have been patched, and cracks have also formed along asphalt joints.
Existing curbs (which are already few in number) are broken, damaged and misaligned. Pedestrian paths or sidewalks are either absent in the reconstructed section or are in very poor condition. There is no continuous pedestrian path or sidewalk along the section, and existing surfaces lack a clearly defined texture.
There are no stormwater drainage networks at the site, which leads to rainwater accumulating on the carriageway, road shoulders and sidewalks.
Some overhead power line poles belonging to the electricity distribution operator are located very close to the carriageway, in some cases practically within it. This creates a safety risk and limits vehicle maneuverability.
Design Solutions
In the design scenario, the road centerline generally remains in the same location, with minor adjustments made to ensure a smoother road trajectory, compliant horizontal curves and adaptation to the existing built environment in the town center.
In certain locations, the width of the road corridor is less than 10 meters, which makes it impossible to implement all street elements in accordance with the requirements of the construction technical regulation “Streets and Local Roads. General Requirements.” During the design process, the route alignment takes into account nearby structures, engineering networks, buildings, the available road corridor width and the client’s requirements.
The longitudinal gradient of the route has been adapted to the existing terrain to avoid steep slopes at driveways and abrupt connections between designed and existing surfaces. The longitudinal profile is slightly adjusted where the existing gradients do not meet minimum regulatory requirements.
The longitudinal gradients of pedestrian paths are designed in accordance with the existing gradients of the carriageway and terrain elevations within the road corridor or on adjacent state land where land plots have not been formed. The design ensures that the interests of third parties are not affected.
Within the project area, the road alignment can be divided into three nearly equal sections: Širvintų Street, Vilniaus Street and Kernavės Street. These sections are separated by intersections with the respective streets.
The project also предусматривает renewal of all existing intersections within the road section. In total, there are five intersections: two with regional roads managed by Via Lietuva and three with streets belonging to the Musninkai town administration in Širvintos District Municipality.
