The reconstruction of the A5 Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suwałki motorway, section from 23.40 to 35.40 km, has been successfully completed. This section is of strategic importance for the economies of both Poland and the Baltic States, as well as for mobility and road safety.
Key Works Performed:
General Road Construction (km 30.00–35.40):
- Upgrading of the road surface and improvement of traffic conditions.
Specialized Works:
- Electrical and telecommunication systems installation;
- Mechanical works, including water supply, sewage, and drainage systems.
Transport Infrastructure Modernization:
- At 31.68 km, a grade-separated interchange with regional road No. 189 Prienai–Skriaudžiai was built, ensuring safer and more efficient traffic flow;
- A viaduct was constructed at 31.68 km to improve regional connectivity;
- A wildlife underpass was built at 30.64 km to allow safe animal migration and reduce collisions with vehicles.
Environmental Measures:
- Noise barriers were installed to reduce sound impact on surrounding communities;
- Protective fencing, escape ramps, and wildlife barriers were implemented to reduce accident risks;
- Amphibian passages were added to support biodiversity conservation;
- Roadside landscaping enhanced environmental aesthetics and supported ecosystem balance.
This project significantly improved traffic conditions, increased safety for drivers, pedestrians, and wildlife, and contributed to the development of a sustainable transport network in the region.
